Hui Wen’s 2015 Back-to-School Lookbook

I’m done with focusing on the negatives of back to school season. Yes, we will soon have responsibilities to upkeep and grades to maintain, but truthfully, September is one of my favourite times of the year. Coming back to school can mean so much more than just homework and stress, seeing your friends again, getting new school supplies (that aren’t clinging on to dear life), going into new classes, finally getting to wear your new clothes… The list goes on. Focusing on that last point there, I hit the streets of 17th Ave, home of my native Western Canada High School (go Redhawks!) to show you a few of my back-to-school outfits for 2015.

To start off, my backpack is something I will for sure be sporting all school year. Due to my pleading need to have a large backpack that will hold all my school essentials, I recently gave in to the bandwagon and purchased the Herschel Little America in Windsor Wine. I absolutely love how spacious it is and the colour is perfect for fall. I’ve already adorned it with my CJSW pin I made with the help of studio members when I did that Youth Central shout out that one time, my pride flag, and – of course – my Youth Week pin.

OUTFIT #1

Outfit 1

Outfit 1 basically sums up my style pretty perfectly. I love looking put together yet comfy, and this super soft button-up shirt is that and more. To add a bit of edge, I paired it with my distressed jeans and black slip-ons. As usual, my accessories include my Daniel Wellington watch, my midi ring (which I prefer to wear on my pinky), and coffee. I absolutely love the minimalist vibe of this outfit.

OUTFIT #2

Outfit 2

Look #2 is definitely more sporty than I usually wear but since being gifted this baseball cap, I’ve been constantly coming up with new ways to wear it. It can hide a bad hair day instantly and compliments pigtail braids perfectly. I’m also obsessed with this henley shirt; I actually bought it in a size XL to get a looser fit and it may be the comfiest thing I own. Once again, I’m wearing my distressed jeans and slip-on shoes for a more casual look.

OUTFIT #3

Outfit 3

When I think of a “classic” school outfit, a jean jacket automatically comes to mind. It is definitely by my standards an essential closet piece. You can throw it on over a tank, t-shirt, button-up – anything really, and it automatically looks school-worthy. If you haven’t noticed already, I’m not a huge proprietor of colour in my outfits and it’s something I’m trying to bring back into my closet. I am obsessed with this light purple tank, it’s super simple yet the cut at the bottom adds a certain flare to it. I wore a delicate necklace to make the outfit less plain. Can you tell I really like my slip-ons? I would highly recommend investing in a pair of comfy and functional shoes – they really do pair well with every outfit, as do quality leggings.

OUTFIT #4

Outfit 4

Technically, it’s almost fall. However, living in Calgary means we have to deal with 30 degree temperatures despite the season. I decided to pair a light cropped sweater suited for the fall with breezy summer shorts to create the ultimate summer-fall transition outfit. I (finally) switched out my slip-ons for Birkenstocks to better compliment the summery vibes of this outfit.

Those are some outfits you’ll see me sporting this upcoming school year, but if you want to see more of YAA’s back-to-school style (and I know you do), keep your eyes peeled in the upcoming week for more #BTSwithYAA looks from other bloggers!

Huge thanks to Katja for taking the photos used in this post, it wouldn’t have been possible without her fleek photography skills.
