Youth Are Awesome, commonly referred to as YAA, is a blog written by youth for youth. YAA provides the youth of Calgary a place to amplify their voices and perspectives on what is happening around them. Youth Are Awesome is a program of Youth Central.

Calgary Zoolights 2014

Zoolights is finally here. Starting from Friday, Nov. 21 and going until Jan. 3, 2015, Calgary will enjoy the beauty of Zoolights. There over 15 millions lights at the Calgary Zoo and over 15 millions reasons to visit. This year, they have a brand new ice skating rink, and skate rentals are free. Have your friends or family with you for Calgary’s favourite holiday tradition.

On a dark winter night, come and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate with your friends, family or date while walking through the Zoo grounds. You will forget the stress of the day and enjoy the moment of peace and happyness with the person you care about.

This year the zoo has raised their general admission to $14 for ages 16+ and $11 for children. It was due to many of new programs that the zoo staff have planed for the entire year, like the new skating rink, Santas Oasis, Singing Tree, Wishing Tree and many more.

  • NEW** Santa’s Oasis Presented by REMAX in the ENMAX Conservatory.
  • NEW** The Singing Tree – a 16-foot voice activated tree of lights.

Tips for an awesome Zoolight experience:

*Buy tickets online and skip the line.

*Check the weather and be prepared that on warm winter nights, Zoolights will be busy!

*Don’t enjoy the crowds? Consider a cooler or week day evening.

*Use the Park Plus app to purchase parking ahead of time or take the LRT.

There are many more to explore. So come and find out yourself. Remember, dress warm, and there will be no admission after 8:30 pm. There will also be $5 parking. Also, the Calgary Zoo is looking for choirs from different schools to perfrom at the Singing Tree. If interested, please find more information at the Calgary Zoo website. Strongly encourage people to buy tickets online so you can get through the line quickly.
