Carol Rossetti: Empowerment

For many years, and even today the word attempts to control women’s bodies. In addition, they have tried to control their identity, and behaviour as well. This type of oppression has become entangled so deeply into our culture that people no longer know that it is even there, or how cruel that can be.

Brazilian artist Carol Rossetti has sent inspiring messages that touch a range of intersectional topics. What she has drawn includes: body image, racism, sexism, and LGBT identity. The characters she talks about are based on her own experiences, friends or family. While there are women drawing inspiration from these wonderful images; there are also woman who are sharing these stories access the internet.

The situations that she portrays are situations that many people have experienced. She beautifully targets important issues, and the way she expresses them are in a way in which global solidarity is clear. Just by looks at the pictures someone can understand the message being applied. Art is something you don’t read. You see, and feel. Right? Above everything, her art is about celebrating yourself. You have to be true to yourself, and don’t let others decide who you are. Her messages also address situations in women’s life around expressions of stigma.

“I can’t change the world by myself,” Rossetti said. “But I’d love to know that my work made people review their privileges and be more open to understanding and respecting one another.””
