Food Truck Review: Cheezy Bizness

Ah, the Cheezy Bizness food truck. A sight for sore eyes for Calgary businessmen and youth everywhere

It was a drizzly, morose, spring afternoon. Fresh out the exam room, I hobbled along the quescient streets of downtown Calgary. Staring at the pale concrete sidewalk, something orange caught my eye. I looked under the rim of my umbrella, and to my utter astonishment, there, parked across the street, was the illustrious Cheezy Bizness food truck.

Okay, so maybe my Tuesday wasn’t that dramatic, but my goodness, two words that describe the food at Cheezy Business: PURE EUPHORIA. When I went to the bright orange food truck I was met with enthusiastic smiles and warm greetings. The staff doesn’t make you feel rushed, and I was at home with the warm smells of grilled cheese.

The menu is quite simple. They generally only have a few items on the menu to make deciding easy and quick. Most of the sandwiches sold for $9 which may have seemed steep at first, but after tasting the food I would’ve paid $20! (Heck, I would’ve given them all my money!)

Have you seen anything more beautiful?

I ordered their special, the Kimchi-Kaze. At first I bought it because of the cool name, but I soon realized that it was much more than that…

The illustrious, and of course delicious Kimchi-Kaze... worth every dollar

The Kimchi-Kaze is a stratified masterpiece composed of kimchi, gruyere cheese, Sriracha sauce, mayo, and pastrami made in the truck. Absolutely amazing, each layer of the sandwich had a unique flavour profile on its own, and when they were eaten together, it produced a harmony of true bliss. (No exaggeration!)

First, the bread. It was smothered with butter and grilled to perfection. The bread was crunchy when I bit into it, but melted into a salty, buttery nirvana in my mouth. Then, the kimchi. Sour, acidic, and the right level of spicy! The strong flavours of the fermented awesomeness was well balanced with the bread and mayo. Then came the pastrami. Moist, fall-apart tender, and added a savoury wave of flavour that took me above and beyond cloud nine.

And of course, what would a grilled cheese sandwich be without the cheese. Gooey and delicious, a thin layer of gruyere cheese made me forget all my stresses from school and life in general, and I couldn’t help but smile. : )

But don’t just sit their and read about the food, go try it yourself! They are usually around downtown, to find out where they are specifically, like them on Facebook here.
