Creativity In Action! Customized cases for charity, an update on my 3 Things for Calgary

Upon entering high school, it may be a bit overwhelming: what courses to take? which clubs to join? With the ever-imposing stress of academia, a few friends and myself at Henry Wise Wood decided to create our own art club as it was a chance for us to relax and share our creativity. However, with only a few meetings in, we felt like we were accomplishing nought; encircling several combined school tables at luncheon, munching on our lunches served little to satisfy our naïve, optimistic minds, eager for adventure.

Our idea to fundraise for charity first stemmed from the “social action project” from our social studies class. By putting our creativity into action (hence our club name, Creativity In Action), we created customized iPhone 4 as well as laptop cases directed at the increasing audience of electronic users.

The focus of our fundraising efforts is the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation. As a group, we admire the strength of the patients of the Children’s Hospital – especially their long-term patients – where young children and adolescent individuals are required to undergo treatment after treatment to combat illness. We hope to better the lives of these children and teens by gifting them Christmas presents at the end of this year. Please visit our webpage for more information on our cause.

On the right is an image I created on Photoshop as promotion for our club. Cheers for an unproductive day spent on procrastinating on schoolwork!

As for a little high school advice: do not believe that you are limited by your circumstance or academics, unable to accomplish anything as you are “just a high school student,” susceptible to the negative public opinion of adolescence. After all, the greatest personal limitation is to be found not in the things you want to do and can’t, but in the things you’ve never considered doing (Richard Bandler).
