Food Truck Review: Fries & Dolls

Nothing quite beats celebrating Canada Day like trying out local food. I’ve never tried our local food trucks before, although I have heard recommendations from people about “Fries & Dolls.” I decided that there was no better opportunity to try it than at Fort Calgary while Canada Day celebrations were going on. Through the crowds of people, tents and blowup playsets, I was able to spot the truck immediately due to it’s bright pink colour. Even though it’s not my favorite colour, it made the truck look fun and cute. Even though the girly outside theme is the thing that first catches your eyes, their delicious food is what keeps you coming back.

"Menu." Fries & Dolls. N.p., n.d. Web. 12 July 2012.

All of the employees had adorable black dresses with pink polka dots for as their uniform, and just to add more to the fun, there were two sizes for their fries; a “B cup” and a “D cup.” Fries & Dolls offered fries, sweet potato fries and sausages.

The most adorable thing about this truck is how each item on the menu has a name. Not a name like “Garlic Fries,” but rather names like “Marilyn” and “Sophia.” After much deliberation, I decided to give the “Farrah” gourmet fries a try. The first thing I thought when I received the cup of fresh fries covered in garlic, parsley and fresh grated Grana Padano Parmesan was, “Wow! These smell amazing!” And the taste of the fries lived up to it too. Put simply, I think those were the best fries I’ve ever had. I have no idea how to describe them so that I can do them justice. It’s simply a must-try dish.

There were more, I just couldn't resist eating some of them before getting the picture taken.

Overall, Fries & Dolls was a very pleasant experience. Although I waited a very long time in line (which is to be expected really, considering it’s a food truck and it was Canada Day), once I got to the front, their service was very pleasant. They took my order with a bright smile and made sure everything went as quickly as possible. I definitely recommend trying their fries at least once, it’s good food and a great addition to any fun occasion. If I happen to bump into them again, I think I want to try the Marilyn sausage.

Here’s a little preview on what this truck has in store:
