Game of the Day: BioGems (Bejewelled with a twist!)

I love puzzle games. Except Bejewelled never piqued my interest; perhaps it’s my lack of understanding how to create combos and imagining how the gems will fall into place. Usually not being able to be good at a game translates to how interested I am at it.

But one day, I came across BioGems, a game created by MochiGames, and I fell in love. It’s a very well-programmed game (aside from a few glitches) and it has really solid graphics. The gameplay is also super fun and a great way to get me interested in Bejewelled.

Dog vs. Bear. Like I said, the graphics are stellar!

Essentially you’re a space dog named Ryu or a space cat named Pixel (and then you can unlock another character after beating the game). Invaders arrive to your home planet and it’s up to you to save the day! So how do you defeat these devilish creatures? By the power of gems, of course!

In a turn-based battle system, the goal is to match at least 3 gems of the same color. Certain colored gems give you certain abilities (heal, attack, special attack, etc.) and you’re trying to deplete the enemy’s hit points. With a simple upgrade system, this game truly knows how to twist popular games and add a different dynamic to it!

So to all your Bejewelled fans, this is for you. And to all those who might not like the game (as I was), give this game a try. I guarantee you’ll smile, since the graphics are simply adorable.
