The event that has been creating waves in the media is Emma Watson’s speech to initiate the HeForShe campaign for gender equality. The UN Goodwill Ambassador received a standing ovation for the address inviting men and boys to join the movement.

Gender inequality affects not only women, but men as well. We have the keys to open these shackles, but refuse to do so in our ignorance.
For a really, really long time, women have been held back. Their opinions, suggestions, ideas have been suppressed, in fear of unleashing their full potential. Emma Watson raised her voice at such, in addition to mentioning how men and women were conformed to rigid structures of behavior, demeanor and appearance.
Should we let such lowly thinking govern our lives?
I fully support her in her endeavors. Feminism is not about hating men, it is the struggle to bring the problems of women into spotlight in order for measures to be taken to fix them.
We all need to emerge from the cage we have created for ourselves. Once we step out, we will realize how confined we had been. Let us learn to be as free as birds, and soar the heights of life, without fear. It will seem difficult at first- walking through an untrodden path on a foggy day, destination unknown. There would be many storms lying in your path, ready to wreak havoc. Every time you fall, get up. Dust yourself off, and start again. This reminds me of a beautiful quote-
“Why do we fall, sir? So we can learn to pick ourselves up”(Batman Begins)
Ladies, let’s stand up for our rights. It has been a tedious walk, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. With every step we take, we are closer to our goal than we were yesterday.
Men, support the women in your life. They may be your mothers, sisters, friends, colleagues, neighbours, or any woman on the street. Let’s become partners, stand shoulder to shoulder, and face this predicament together.
Emma’s Campaign, HeForShe, has gained massive support from celebrities including Tom Hiddleston and Harry Styles, among many.
