Movies of 2015 to look forward to

Jasmine K.

Looking for new movies to watch this year? Well, there are no worries as this year will be very active in terms of entertainment. Besides the main, most popularized sequels such as Mockingjay and Divergent, there are many other movies that people may have not heard of. If you are looking for promising films to see in theatres that aren’t mainstream, enjoy these summaries and trailers and see if they pique your interests.

1. Kingsman

Looking for an action packed spy classic? Kingsman: The Secret Service is the movie for you. The story — which consists of an environment involving high tech gadgets and lots of explosions– compacts the process of a teenage boy becoming a spy under intensive training into a film by the creators of X-men: Days of the Future Past. Personally, I am anticipating the release of this movie as it seems thrilling through the trailer (however, I have really weird taste so it may not apply to some folks). This movie, however, is definitely not for all ages, judging from the violence in some trailers. Although it may not be for the family, teens could probably enjoy this movie with friends and adults.

2. Jupiter Ascending

This movie caught my attention in that it had an intriguing setting and the storyline seemed interesting as it involved fantasy and a hierarchical society. The plot seems very generic though, featuring a protagonist who is ‘the one’ and a battle to protect that special person.

3. Project Almanac

Watching this trailer, I was immediately reminded of Back to the Future as it involved travelling in time and creating ripple effects, causing serious consequences. This movie seems to have a small portion of horror and serious drama, however, overall it looks to be a fun roller coaster thrill based off trailers and summaries.

4. Still Alice

Still Alice is a movie on the life of a woman who develops a sickness: Alzheimer’s disease. Knowing she has it, she tries to hide the facts, however, reality couldn’t let the truth stay hidden, leading to a revealing of the facts. For drama lovers and those who sympathize with entertainment, this story is a great one to watch with friends who feel the same as you.

5. Inside Out

Every movie list isn’t complete without a fun animated original from Pixar! This year, Pixar is releasing an animation film about how emotions, quite literally, control you. In this movie, emotions take on an avatar and work together to control a human’s actions, however, the protagonist of this story has emotions that don’t play well together. Personally, I find this film to be interesting as I’m curious as to how Pixar will form this vague idea into a storyline worth watching.

Who am I? It's quite a difficult question to answer in a box, but here it is: all of my summary skills packed into 100 some words. I am a badminton playing otaku who enjoys time avidly reading and sketching. As for taste, I love to read George Orwell novels and eat green tea flavoured everything (yup, probably even green tea ketchup if you were wondering). I OBVIOUSLY hate writing (dripping with the strongest sarcasm there is) and I am impotent when it comes to chocolate.
