Restaurant Review: Globefish Sushi and Izakaya

5595467964_50b11581da_oGuys, I’d like to introduce you to my favorite Japanese restaurant in Calgary. Globefish Sushi and Izakaya is located outside of Chinook Mall, right next to the Shopper’s Drug Mart entrance. If you think Japanese cuisine revolves only around sushi, then you should pay this restaurant a visit, it will change your perspective.

The first thing you’ll notice upon entering this restaurant is its quiet subtlety. The lighting is soft and very calming, and each table is sectioned off to give a sense of privacy. The service is great, the waiters are super friendly, and the food is delicious, not to mention low priced as well. This restaurant differs from other Japanese restaurants in that they’re actually not very well-known for their sushi, but rather for noodles and other oriental dishes.

On my most recent visit to the restaurant, my friend and I ordered takoyaki  as our appetizer. Globefish always has the amazing takoyaki. The bits of sprinkled dried seaweed aids the balance of sauces to achieve a gentle flavor. Crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside; I would recommend this appetizer for anyone who plans on visiting this restaurant.

For the main course, I ordered the beef yakisoba. I’ve tried this dish from many restaurant before but I honestly have to say that Globefish has the best yakisoba in Calgary. Although the noodle was a tad dry this time, it’s usually deliciously chewy and very well made. What makes this dish great is the crunchy bits of fried dough sprinkled on top of the noodles, it goes very well with the beef provided and is very filling as well.

globe fish gyozaWe also ordered gyoza along with the noodles. Although I really enjoyed them, the sauce provided didn’t suit my taste so much. However, overall, this dish was very tasty. The gyoza were crispy and the fillings were well seasoned. But if you feel this dish is a bit too greasy for your taste, I would suggest trying the dragon rolls. When in doubt, go with sushi!

I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone interested in Japanese cuisine. You can visit their website here and find a branch that’s convenient for your traveling.
