Summer break is just around the corner for most students and I just want to get the word out there of a cool program happening this summer called the Seminar on the United Nations and International Affairs. It is a weeklong camp for teenagers that focuses on international issues through debates with representatives of the United Nations and the Canadian Department of National Defence. This year, the camp will be held twice from August 11-16 and August 18-23 at the Goldeye Centre in Nordegg, AB.

Students attending the SUNIA programme will learn through interactive simulations as well hands-on experiences, including a simulated session of the United Nations Security Council. During the session, participants will be dealing with issues many countries face today, such as immigration, security and foreign policy. Through this Security Council session, students become familiar with conflicts in the world today, as well as the process of international diplomacy.

Outside of the classroom, participants will be enjoying the summer at the Goldeye Centre right beside the Rocky Mountains. Activities throughout the week will include canoeing and swimming on Lake Goldeye, hiking on the mountains and field games such as soccer, ultimate and football. In case of rain, the Goldeye Centre offers an indoor gymnasium, as well as a recreation area with activities such as ping-pong and foozball.

There are still some spots left in the SUNIA program, so make sure you register soon. There are also scholarships and a sponsorship package for those who require financial assistance. Nonetheless, make sure you check out their website for some more pictures and to sign up.

My name is Aaron and I'm your average high school teenager. I like to play games, have fun and make smiles happen. Badminton, soccer and technology are my interests. Anyways, make sure you volunteer lots around Calgary and maybe one day we'll run into each other, who knows? ;) @YAAaaron

  1. Hmm it looks like your website ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying
your blog. I too am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to the whole thing. Do you have any points for beginner blog writers? I’d definitely appreciate it.
