Youth Are Awesome, commonly referred to as YAA, is a blog written by youth for youth. YAA provides the youth of Calgary a place to amplify their voices and perspectives on what is happening around them. Youth Are Awesome is a program of Youth Central.

Are you age 13-18? Are you a student studying in Alberta? Are you a student who want to tell the government what YOU think about your education? This is for you!

Speakout Alberta is an website with all kinds of different materials telling you what other students think about education, with a discussion area.

I would like to introduce you to the site before you go in! They give out Prize in some of the section too!

1.Discussion Area — Most Important!

The discussion area offers all kinds of  topics, from School Hours, breaks, Courses, curriculum, to The Education Minister’s questions for you! It’s an opportunity to debate, discuss, and talk about almost anything that encounter in your education.  That’s right…ALMOST anything. You get gifts from them when you hit a point of post! — The Biggest Price could be an I-pod touch

2. Blog

The blog talks about education……(A very wide variety – from problems to language to … just a lot of things)

3. Forum

What are Speak Out Forums?

Speak Out Forums are small groups of discussions that have been happening all over the province. Students in grades 9-12 are invited to talk about their educational experience with the Speakout team.

At a Speak Out Forum, they are asked four questions:

  1. What does it look like when you are learning at your best?
  2. What is holding you back from learning at your best?
  3. What actions can ADULTS take to improve how education looks and feels?
  4. What actions can STUDENTS take to improve how education looks and feels?

You can be the forum host too!

4.Conference
Speak Out Conference is group for Alberta’s youth coming from every corner of the province once a year to discuss their unique perspectives and ideas on how to improve education. I went to this year’s, and it’s awesome. Register! and get a chance to tell what you think and ask what you are unclear about education.
